We love because He loved us first. - 1 John 1:9
Jesus calls us to show our love in practical ways to those that we come into contact with on a daily basis. Without action the world right outside of our own window will not be reached. The goal of LoveWorks Local is to reach out to people and already existing organizations geared at orphan care and evangelism in White County and across the state of Arkansas. We hope that you will join us in our efforts to “go and love of them”. Not everyone is called to foster but everyone is called to do something. Here are some practical ways to go and serve orphans and those that care for orphans in our community:
Get Involved With a Local Group Home
The Judsonia Emergency Receiving Shelter, “provide[s] immediate sanctuary for children in need of emergency care. Many of the children in the agency's emergency shelters have been abused, abandoned or neglected.” (taken from the website, abc.org) The local Receiving Shelter is always in need of volunteers to help with various things such as playing with the kids, teaching or tutoring children, completing various service projects, mentoring and spending time with the children and providing needed items for the shelter.
Get Involved With the Foster Parent Association (FPA)
The FPA generally meets six times a year in order to allow Foster Parents to obtain the needed C.E.U. (continuing education unit) requirements to continue fostering. At these meetings, a meal is provided for both the adults and the children. The FPA needs volunteers to help provide these meals as well as to provide childcare at these meetings. Generally, these meetings are held on the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 pm in the months of Sept, Oct, Nov, March, April, and May.
Get Involved: Keep the Freezer Stocked
A quick and easy meal can be a life saver for a foster family that got a call in the middle of the night and was asked to take in a new child. Our goal as a church body is to keep our freezer stocked with casseroles (homemade or store bought!) so that any Foster Family can come and get a meal when they need one.
Get Involved: Imagine and Believe
Imagine and Believe is set up at Whitney Lane FWC. This Boutique is open to Foster and Adoptive Families so that they can come and find needed items for the children in their care. This serves as an invaluable resource for families because it is just too difficult to be prepared for every and all age groups that might come into their home and this resource is free! Imagine and believe always needs volunteers to donate needed items and to sort and organize donated items. Volunteers are welcome to set up a time to serve. There is also a need in March and August for a large number of volunteers to help sort through the donated clothes items from the Rhea Lana Consignment Sale.
Get Involved: The Giving Tree
Providing Christmas for their own family and an additional foster child can sometimes be very difficult for a Foster Family. We as a church body, have the opportunity to sponsor Christmas for a foster child! What a great way to show God's love in practical way! Volunteers are also needed to help organize and coordinate the donated gifts for the foster children.
Get Involved: The Maple House
The Maple House Community is a group of neighbors around S. Maple Street in Searcy, AR. We meet at the Maple House for games, worship, after-school tutoring, and gardening with the community.
Get Involved: Hope Restored
Hope Restored is a local consignment shop that provides funds to our local Hope Cottage. There is always a need for volunteers to sort and serve in the consignment shop.
