According to a recent Barna Study, one of the best ways for people to grow deeper in their faith is to serve together. On this portion of our website we want to highlight different ways our body is serving, how it has impacted them, and invite you to join them! Check it out.
This volunteer highlight has continually served providing childcare at the Foster Parent Association Meeting. Here our church members have the opportunity to interact directly with foster children and families right here in White County. This volunteer truly understands what it means that everyone is called to help our local and foster children. Here is a brief highlight of her experience.
Several months ago I was looking for opportunities to volunteer, and I was blessed to learn about the Foster Parent's monthly meetings. My responsibilities there was to babysit the little kids for a couple of hours. What a JOY to be able to step in to interaction and loving the children who, through absolutely no fault of their own, have “new families” for a time. For a short time each month, I get to share with them a tiny bit of the amazing love and grace that God has shown me! And, as with most things, I find that I am the one who has been blessed the most!!
Below is a story of a teammate who went on the Honduras Living Water 2014 Mission Trip whose life the Lord changed through this trip. To learn more about God's transforming work in this man's life, please read his story below....
Honduras was a special time for me. Not because we helped provide clean water to those in need (although that was incredible), not because the people of Honduras are great (although they are), and not because the team I went with was amazing (although they were). It was a special time for me because it was a time that God pulled back the curtain and allowed me to see His work clearly. It was a time when the Holy Spirit said, 'WAKE UP and taste and see that the Lord is good!'
You see, I realized that up to that point I believed in God, but I was still lying in my grave. Saved but waiting for the end of my run here on earth...only I was not running. Jesus took my hand on that trip, invited me in, and said wake up, and my life has not been the same since.
You see God is at work all over the world...here also. We just need to open our eyes and pray that God would pull back the curtain so we may see Him at work and join in. I always think of the words to the song, 'Come awake, come awake, come and rise up from the grave.'
May the Holy Spirit, God's Spirit, anoint this year's team and may it lead to a great awakening for them and for our church and community.
